The More You Know: Sesame seeds are thought to be the world's oldest condiment, dating back to at least 1600 B.C. In Arabian Nights, Ali Baba's magic words "Open, Sesame" ("Open, Simsim" in Arabic) reflect the way the seed pods burst open at maturity.
