Why not wear white after Labor Day?

: white after labor day

Why: On People of Walmart:
I’m just going to go ahead and say it. Everyone knows it’s taboo to wear your horse tail and flame boots after Labor Day! There, I said it, it’s out on the table now!
Answer: There are several theories of origin:
  • White clothes kept New York fashion editors during cool summer months, but they didn't want to risk sullying themselves in heavy fall rain.
  • Rich people wore lightweight white clothes and Panama hats as they "summered" in the Hamptons or on the Vineyard or East Egg or wherever, but they went back to heavier, darker materials when school started in the fall.
  • There was never any real reason - it was always just one of those arbitrary fashion things, like how you can't wear jorts after New Year's.
