Thunderbolt and lightning, very very frightening
Answer: A roguish clown stock character in 17th-century Italian farce (commedia dell'arte)! Scaramuccia (literally "skirmish") - usually dressed in all black - was beaten by Harlequin for his boasting and cowardice. He was a regular in Punch and Judy puppet shows.
He is usually a buffoon or boastful clown. He entertains the audience by his "grimaces and affected language." He can be portrayed as either clever or stupid as the actor sees fit.
