The More You Know: The name Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase "matunda ya kwanza", meaning "first fruits." Each of the 7 days is dedicated to one of the Seven Principles:

- Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
- Nia (Purpose)
