Why did my cat's fur grow back white?

Why: In May, Maddie licked a hole in her side, either because of fleas (which she had) or because of some other trauma in the house. She had to get shaved and had some steroid shots, and the spot grew back bright white. Before and after:
Answer: This seems like a reasonable explanation:
It happens to many animals (and people) if they have trauma that would cause a scar. It damages the hair follicles (not enough to kill them) causing the hair to grow back white.
