What does mija / mijo mean in Spanish?

Search
: meha; mija mijo

Why: Ignacio calls his kids & grandson those names on "Ugly Betty."

Answer: "My daughter" or "my son." They are contractions of mi hija / mi hijo, and only used in Mexican Spanish.

The More You Know: I think I am the only person I know who still watches "Ugly Betty." I am loyal to a fault - it's my most dangerous character flaw.

  1. not only in psanish Mexico, it is used in Colombia also, and sometimes people use it not only to call their son or daughter, the word losses the meaning of "mi hijo" and other people are called mijo not only sons or daughters.
