Why isn't Phillip the King of England?

: why isn't phillip the king

Why: We watched The Queen last week, and in Eddie Izzard: Glorious:
Back in the 60s, she was sexy in a sort of difficult-to-believe way... but she was. You know, the 60s skirts. "Fancy the Queen, yeah. Got her picture on my locker door, yeah." "Shag the Queen."

In the 60s, London and Britain were hip for the first time since the Civil War, and the Queen should have gone with it - slipstreamed in there. Short skirts, E-type Jags, cigarette. Vroom, vroom...

Police coming up: "Hey, lady, you're speeding."

"Fuck off, I'm the Queen." Shoom! "Where to now, Phil? Phil, read the map the right way up, for God's sake."

Prince Philip - he's a card.
Answer: A queen regnant (plural "queens regnant") is a female monarch who possesses all the monarchical powers that a king would have without regard to gender. This is in contrast with a queen consort, who is merely the spouse of a reigning king, and on her own has no official powers of state.

Technically, a king may also be a "king regnant" or a "king consort" — but this distinction is unusual and, for example, has been used only twice in the history of the British and its predecessor monarchies. In all current monarchies that allow for a Queen regnant to take the Throne, the husband of such Queen is not titled King, generally ranking as a prince, often with the style "Prince Consort."

The More You Know: Queen Elizabeth was born in 1926 - she is 83. Elizabeth married Philip on November 20, 1947. The couple are 2nd cousins once removed through King Christian IX of Denmark and 3rd cousins through Queen Victoria. She became Queen the day her father (George VI) died on February 6, 1952 - 57 years and 240 days ago.

Here she is looking foxy at her wedding, her coronation (June 1953), and sometime in the 1960s:
