Where did the name Chanticleer come from?
Search: chanticleer
Why: It is the name of the rooster in Rock-A-Doodle, and Amit's second favorite thing (after PHP).
Answer: It comes from Middle English chauntecler, from Old French chantecler - from chanter, "to sing" (like chant) + cler, "clear."
Chanticleer (or Chantecler) is the name of the police chief / rooster in the tale of Reynard the Fox, which was first recorded around 1175. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer used the fox & rooster material in the story "The Nun's Priest Tale," aka "The Nun's Priest's Tale of the Cock and the Hen, Chanticleer and Partlet."
