What is the origin of prefix "eco"?

Answer: It derives from the Greek "οικος" (oikos) which refers to a "house" or "household" and from the Late Latin "oeco-". The use of "eco" as a modifier to denote an environmental context started from the late 1960s but had been used as early as 1949.
