: louisa may alcott

Why: I just watched Little Women.

Answer: They were:
  • Anna Bronson Alcott Pratt (Meg) - She married John Bridge Pratt, who played opposite her in "The Loan of a Lover." Like Meg, she had 2 children - while Meg had a boy and a girl (Demi and Daisy), Anna had 2 boys (Frederick and John).
  • Elizabeth Sewell Alcott (Beth) - She died at 22.
  • Abigail May Alcott Nieriker (Amy) - At 38, she married Swiss businessman / violinist Ernest Nieriker, who was 15 years younger. The next year, she had a baby girl named Louisa May "Lulu," and died 6 weeks later.

The More You Know:
  • When Anna's husband died, Louisa helped her buy the yellow Thoreau House in Concord. Now it's called the Thoreau-Alcott House.
  • May was the illustrator of the first edition of Little Women, to a negative critical reception.
  • There was no Laurie.
