Where did the word "mosaic" come from?

Why: I'm editing an article about mosaic art.

Answer: c.1400, from Old French mosaicq "mosaic work," from Medieval Latin musaicum "mosaic work, work of the Muses," from Latin Musa (as in muse).

Medieval mosaics were often dedicated to the Muses. The Greek word was mouseion.
