What is Pelé's last name?

Why: Just read this article on StuffWhitePeopleLike.com about "Having Two Last Names."

As a result we have children growing up named Elijah Sadler-Moore.

While it’s true that many Spanish speaking cultures do this, often times their names are crazy long but are often shortened into sweet one word nicknames like Pele.
Answer: Arantes do Nascimento! This is his mom's last name (she was Maria Celeste Arantes) PLUS his dad's last name (he was João Ramos do Nascimento, aka Dodinho). His first name, by the way, is Edison, and his family used to call him Dico.

The More You Know: He received the nickname Pelé in school days, when (legend has it) he mispronounced the name of his favorite player, local goalkeeper Bilé. In his autobiography, however, Pelé stated he had no idea what the name means, nor did his old friends. Other than the Bilé thing, the word has no known meaning, although it is the name of a Hawaiian volcano goddess and it does resemble the Irish word peil, meaning "football."
