Answer: In the years following the demise of Milli Vanilli, Rob Pilatus struggled with substance abuse and suicide attempts. After an unsuccessful comeback attempt, the duo stopped speaking.

In 1996, Pilatus served 3 months in jail for assault, vandalism, and attempted robbery. He also spent 6 months in rehab.

On April 2, 1998, he was found dead in a hotel room in Frankfurt, where - by the way - he was born to a soldier and a stripper. His death was ruled as accidental of a suspected overdose on alcohol and prescription pills.
