How big is a mansion?

Search
: how big is a mansion

Why: In the Patrick Tobin story "Cake" (in The Best American Non-Required Reading 2008):
The address was in Palos Verdes, for a house that looked like the bastard child of a mansion and a small hotel.
Answer: U.S. realtors define a mansion as a dwelling of over 7,000 square feet (650 m2). In general, however, there is no formal definition beyond being a large and well-appointed house.

A McMansion is often a speculatively-built suburban house that incorporates numerous design features on a floor plan of 3,000 to 5,000 square feet (460 m2).
