: sazerac cocktail

Why: Benjamin Button's dad always orders it.

Answer: It is allegedly the first cocktail ever invented (at least in the United States), made by the Creole apothecary Antoine Amadie Peychaud in the 1830s. It is made of:
  • cognac, brandy, or rye whiskey
  • Peychaud's Bitters
  • Absinthe, Herbsaint, or Pernod

The More You Know: It is associated with the Sazerac Bar in the New Orleans Fairmont Hotel, which pays the Sazerac Company for use of its name. When visiting, be sure not to order New Orleans's official cocktail "on the rocks" - it should never be served with ice.
