What is lanolin?

Search
: lanolin

Why: It's in lotion, but in Anchorman, Ron Burgundy calls it "sheep's wool."

Answer: Well, I'll be jiggered! It is "a greasy yellow substance secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals, with the vast majority of it used by humans coming from domestic sheep." Gross! It is used in many products like rust preventatives, shoe polish, cosmetics, and lubricants. Medically, it is used to soothe skin, chapped lips, cracked nipples, diaper rash, minor burns, and rashes.

The More You Know: When we were little, Lulu had an alpaca wool pillow. I was so jealous of it. Buy me one for my b-day.
