The More You Know: It was once the world's 4th largest saline body of water, but it has been steadily shrinking since the 1960s. By 2004, it was 25% of it's original size. By 2007, it was only 10%. An 5x increase in salinity has killed almost all its plant and animal life, destroying the fishing industry in surrounding towns.
