Why: On Etsy, there are some handmade "pashminas" for sale by a gal in Los Angeles.

Answer: The shawls are hand spun and woven in Kashmir. The wool comes from the changthangi or pashmina goat, which is a special breed of goat indigenous to high altitudes of the Himalayas.

The More You Know: There are also a number of cashmere goats. The word "cashmere" refers to the fine soft downy undercoats they grow in winter.
