Why: I have this awesome picture of my grandparents. Based on their ages and clothes and the cars, I would guess it is from some time in the late 1950s:
UPDATE!!!! One aunt says: "it was with Hazel and Joe Blockman in New Orleans in 1960's."Answer: The original, on Decatur St. in New Orleans, first opened in 1862! The coffee shop is best known for its café au lait, French-style beignets, and coffee blended with chicory.
Another aunt says: "That is their yellow and white oldsmobile in the background. If I am not mistaken, this photo was taken in about 1955. Pretty sure about that."
Starting in the late 1980s, Café du Monde opened up additional locations in shopping malls. While it once expanded as far away as Atlanta and Sarasota, in recent years, the company has restricted its operation to the greater New Orleans metro area, except it also has locations throughout Japan.
