What is "frangipane"?

Why: Erin has a friend whose last name is Frangipane. I think that is a type of flower.

The More You Know: The flower I was thinking of is frangipani.

Frangipane/frangipani are derived from frangere il pane (Italian for "break the bread"), from which the noble Frangipani family of Rome derived their name in the 11th century. The Marquis Frangipane was perfumer to Louis XIII, hence the name of the flowers:
