Why: That business makes me nervous. Just when you think all that stranger danger is the stuff of urban legends, another young lady gets randomly murdered.
Answer: Mixture wrong place, wrong time, money, and probably a little bit of not being so careful. Police have collected surveillance footage of Burk (17, from my neighborhood) with her suspected murderer, Charles Samuel (50, a "transient" with a history of drugs and violence), in various places:
- One camera shows Samuel driving Burk's car with Burk in the passenger seat.
- Then they are at a downtown ATM.
- A final shot shows Samuel abandoning her car in a parking lot. Burk's body was found inside the car the next morning.
By the time her parents reported her missing hours later, Burk was likely already dead.

The More You Know: When I got home from work this evening, my front door was basically ajar. Like: I didn't even have to turn the knob to push the door open. My cat and computer were still here, and there was no one hiding in my shower.
It is still entirely possible that someone is standing inside my closet (I have not yet opened it, and may never again), but I have been ignoring him so long that he is probably very bored and sleepy. When he nods off and tips over, he will crash into the door and I will call the police. I also may sleep with a knife under my pillow, so don't try to come in and surprise me or anything.
On second thought, I will probably sleep on the couch (with a knife under my pillow).
i feel ya. that s happened to me in college. i, too, preferred NOT to know what was in the closet rather than go anywhere near it.
ReplyDeletetoday, i use the same approach with my bank account.
Oh my god. I slept on the couch. It was horrible. Then, this morning, a spider the size of a HAMSTER came out from behind my shampoo bottle WHILE I WAS IN THE SHOWER. I need to move.
