Which existed first: Serta or Sealy?
Search: serta; sealy
Why: Two major mattress competitors have two-syllable 5-letter names that start with S.
Answer: Sealy mattresses were first made in Sealy, Texas, in 1881 by a guy who built cotton gins. In 1889, he patented an invention that compressed cotton for the mattresses, called "Mattresses from Sealy." In 1906, another guy bought the patents, took the name Sealy, and expanded it to a national market.
